I recently sent out a survey to all of my social media channels, newsletter subscribers, and followers.

Six months into the Trump administration, the author draws a parallel to the emotional toll of the early days of COVID-19—marked by uncertainty and anxiety—but this time, they feel more grounded and intentional. They are leaning into their identity, reengaging with former clients, exploring diverse projects, and continuing their commitment to service and research. In an effort to understand and address the pervasive uncertainty people are feeling, they conducted a two-question survey across their networks, asking respondents to identify their biggest sources of uncertainty in both personal and professional spheres.

The responses revealed deep and consistent patterns of worry: access to healthcare, financial instability, job security, the safety of marginalized identities, and the emotional strain of balancing personal and professional responsibilities. Healthcare uncertainty emerged as a dominant concern, regardless of age, status, or political alignment. Financial fears were often interwoven with health concerns, especially for those facing retirement, chronic illness, or changing job markets influenced by technology and political shifts. Importantly, the survey highlighted a collective fear of systemic instability—ranging from political volatility and climate change to discrimination and ideological divides. The piece urges readers to normalize uncertainty, recognize shared fears, and lean into empathy and support for others as a way of grounding themselves amid chaos. The call to action is clear: connect, empathize, and shift from isolation to collective care.
